I recently hit the front of my car on something and ever since then I had to disconnect the battery cable in order to get my key out of the ignition. What might be causing this problem?

Inspect shift cable for broken brackets, proper routing or retainer clips missing. Also look at park/lock switch on trans, it may be broken.
