Daughter (living in another state) called to say engine light came on. Took to Toyota dealer who did diagnostic check. Oil, etc, all ok but '. One of four air fuel filters(?) Needed to be replaced but car ok to run temporarily on three'. Quoted cost to replace the one filter is $539.

Don't know much about cars but this sounds weird and expensive.

I'LL DO IT FOR HALF THE PRICE!

Hi clarkjd. Welcome to the forum. No one would charge that much for a 20 dollar fuel filter or air filter. They aren't monitored by the Engine Computer anyway so they won't cause the Check Engine light to turn on. And there isn't four of them. I suspect the quote was for a catalytic converter. Is there a written estimate you can use to get the exact part they want to replace?

That makes more sense. That's a fancy name for an oxygen sensor. It still seems high but that might include some diagnostic time, and it most likely includes the labor to replace it. That sensor for my '88 Grand Caravan costs 50 bucks, but a lot of cars now are using some really sophisticated sensors. Some Hondas also use really expensive oxygen sensors. The good news is they don't fail real often.
