Hi

I have a Toyota Camry LE 1999 with 105200 miles on it. When I turn on the rear defroster, my lights go dim and the heater works weakly. My mechanic tested the alternator and he told me that it works fine. I also replaced the alternator belt. My battery is ok however it is not very new. I got it about 2 years ago. Would you please give me some advice?

Thank you very much

Hi there,

looking at the wiring diagram of the rear defog system there are a number of diodes in the defog switch assembly, which if are defective may back feed an earth to the heater and lights. I would have a tech check this out before purchasing a new switch, I can see how it may affect it in theory, but it's always good practice to test first, I feel that the switch may not be cheap. If my theory is correct and you have mirror heaters as well, they may also be affected.
