I have a 1998 Toyota Camry 4cyl with 219,000 miles on it. When I turn the key it sometimes doesn't start up right away and kind of hiccups then starts. This usually happens in the morning after the car sits overnight. Then as I pull out of the driveway it will hiccup or hestitate as I press on the gas pedal but after a few minutes and we get over 25mph the car is fine and usually starts up with no problem or rather easier during the day but the next morning it starts all over again with the uneasy hiccup start-up.
The cost of repair worries me because I don't know exactly what area to even begin to start replacing?
ignition coil? Ignition switch? Fuel filter? Pump? Starter going? Distributor cap and rotor? Probably should replace ignition wires? Carb need cleaning? Fuel injectors need cleaning? Already replaced air filter last week.
The only thing I have done with this car is brakes and oil changes and one tune-up 3 years ago with platinum plugs at 100,000 miles and replaced the timing belt, other than that I have hardly ever gone to the mechanic but I suspect I'm now finally due.
What do you think is the best thing to start off replacing?
Appreciate your response.
