Cooling fans dont seem to engage?

1998 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

It seems that my 1998 Camry cooling fans dont seem to engage even on a very hot day is this normal for the radiator cooling fans not to turn on. The Temperature gauge sits a little above half way on the gauge and only when the A/C is turned on do the fans engage.

Hi there,

If the fan is not turning on at all, you will have a faulty fan temp sensor, but just make sure that it is not coming on, as you may not hear it from the cabin and about 1/2 gauge is normal for this car.

Its not true. Could b a short, one of 3 temp sensors, or one of 3 fan relays ect.

I would check the RDI fuse in the fuse panel under the hood. Here is the radiator fan wiring daigrams so you can see how the system works. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
