After about an hour of freeway driving, it will not maintain its speed.I increase the rpm, s but there is very little response. It takes me hitting the passing gear in order to just maintain existing speed. There are no hills. Basically the rpms increase but the mph does not proportionately.

Hi rmeyer0,

Thank you for the donation.

The symptoms described seems to indicate slipping of the transmission.

I would suggest checking the transmissioon fluid level and condition.

If the level is too high or low, it can cause the problem. If the condition of the fluid is bad, it would cause slipping when the fluid heats up.

We siphoned 2 quarts out. It brought it to nearly the end of the dip stick. It would barely engage, so put 1 quart back in and seems to shift ok. If we eventually have to over fill it again, it will still develope the origional problem. So where do you think that will lead us? Would a clogged filter be the problem? Or is it worn disc? Thank you. Robert

Sorry for the delay in answering. I seem to have missed the notification.

It is possible for a clogged filter to cause this as the clogging would result in insufficient fluid at higher speed driving.

However the filter is a maintenence free type and if it does clog, the possibility of a failing transmission is very high.
