1996 Toyota Camry Automatic

My windshield wipers aren't working. I left them turned on this winter when there was a heavy snowfall on my windshield. Now when I turn them on I just hear thunking and thudding and nothing happens. I checked the fuse and it is fine. What do you think my problem is?

Check the tightness of the wiper arm nuts.
