Drove my 96 Camry to Shop for check Engine light and the EGR valve was replaced. Afterwards, the mechanic cannot start the car. It seized and would not turn. Today he took out the oil pan and showed me cyl 2 with a bad rod bearing. I noticed in the last year that oil filter clogged up fast. Any relationship there? The crank shaft he showed me was scored pretty bad. Why only one cylinder? The other 3 seems fine. He took out 1 other bearing and showed me. No problem with it at all. He seems to suggest that I did not change the oil often. Thats not true. The other 3 bearings were fine.

Hi there,

This is not that unusual, you can get one bearing failure with the rest in good condition, if the oil gallery and bearing drill hole are partly blocked with deposits of carbon or oil scum it can starve that one bearing and it wont take long for it to fail.
