Poor acceleration can be caused by a clogged fuel filter. So, changing that is a good idea.

However, what you are describing sounds like the timing belt might have gotten worn and skipped a tooth. Which is making it difficult to accelerate. I have seen this happen before that a faulty timing belt can impact acceleration. And typically, it will do that before it breaks.
