The mechanic that I use on a regular basis says that engine mounts in my car are flat and need to be replaced. It does vibrate quit a bit at idle. He says if I intend to keep driving this car they HAVE to be replaced! He says it's going to cost about $700 dollars!
What would be the consequences of not replacing the mounts?

The motor mounts are very easy to replace the front one cost less than 50. Usd at o'rileys and 15 mins to replace. The rear one on the transmission takes a bit longer. What I found was to trim the length of the bolts so they will alow the mount to slip in to place.
I trimmed off just enough for the mount plate on the car and the nut would have enough threads.
Both mounts for less than 75 usd and 1 hour of time.
So do not get taken. If you can change the oil and filter you can do this and yes you can do this in the drive way bd ;)
