I am thinking about purchasing a 1989 Toyota Camry for my son to drive back and forth to high school, however, during acceleration, the engine on this car sounds like a sewing machine! It sounds like lifters or valves need adjusting or its not getting proper lubrication. Any ideas or suggestions before I pay $1200 for someone else's problems?

Hi there,

this may be engine ping, or detonation during heavy engine load, it my just be an ignition adjustment required or even bad fuel.
