Check engine light came on at 43,000 miles. I thought it was a reminder for engine oil change so I changed oil and filter. I re-set the maintenance reminder by pressing odometer knob and ignition key. I also disconnect the battery cable, negative, and goes off for a while and comes back on. The only things I've done to the car since new was... change engine oil and filter, engine and cabin filters, front and rear brake pads. The car dives fine. No rough idle, coolant level is OK. Could you tell me what possibly needs to be done to the car if any in order to check engine light to stay off? Thank you for your input. Ken

Hi Ken,

Thank you for the donation.

When the CEL indicates, an error has been detected in the engine management and/or emission control system.

You would need to retrieve the trouble code to understand what is wrong and proceed with rectification.

Autozone provides free scanning services, get the trouble codes retrieved and let me know the exact troube code so I can get the necessary information for you.
