This is the first time for me to experience this, but while I was driving today, it seemed like my transmission gears slipped from drive to neutral, nothing happened when I stepped on the gas so I had to pull over (3 times). Each time, I turned off the engine and started it up again. Twice when I put the vehicle into drive, everything went fine. But the third time my car stalled , and I pulled over to restart, it wouldn't budge when I put it in drive!! Reverse worked fine, but not drive (nor 2nd gear or L). I turned off the car and restarted it, and it worked fine. I managed to get home fine. Now I am scared to drive it anymore. What's the problem??

I must be wrong when I said the gears "slipped" into neutral because when I pressed the gas, nothing happened.....the engine didn't rev. like it would if I had actually put it into neutral and stepped on the pedal. Instead, the car just kept rolling on down the road until it was slowing down to a stop. I had to pull over and restart the car again.
