I have a 2000 Toyota 4Runner. The automatic door lock mechanism has started to malfunction. It continuously tries to lock the doors periodically - even when the locking buttons are not being pushed.

It will do this occasionally even standing still with the ignition off... but is much worse while driving and seems to be linked to the indicators as well - sometimes locking in sync with indicators when turned on.

Any ideas?

Regards, Adrian...

There can be a handful of possiblilities. The easiest and most likely is the wiring the gets flexed at the door. There is a rubber boot that the wires run through from the door to the body. They get weak from bending and can end up breaking at this point. Pull the boots back and get a good look in there at each door.

Post back if the problem is not found there.
