Electrical problem
1999 Toyota 4Runner 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I went out this AM to start the truck and when I turned the key, the starter turned over, but the engine didn't start. When I removed the key, the starter continued to turn over until I disconnected the battery. The battery was hanging off the side of its pan. Is this ignition switch, starter solenoid or what else could it be?

I would suspect the starter solenoid is bad as the battery has fallen off of its stop, maybe kiked the line?

Thanks for the reply. I suspect the solenoid as well. Would you believe that a complete starter (with lifetime warranty) is cheaper than a replacement solenoid? LOL

Crazy huh?

But the thing with starters is they are rebuilt soooooo without the core they would be around the same.

But still a little hunk of plastic is more then a starter.
