1998 Toyota 4Runner tailgate won't open

Seems like tailgate cable is broken and tailgate won't open. How do I get inside the tailgate and do the repair? Thanks. Trying to fix this for my son before he comes home this weekend.

Youy made a donation and you deserve an answer. I haven't come acorss this and have no information on it at this point. My suggestion is to call the dealer with your vin number and ask the parts department to fax you an exploded view.

IF you want to post pics of what you have maybe I can help you along. ANy pic that has anything remotley close would help.

Without seeing it, is there an inside panal?

There will be a panel that you should be able to access on the back of the tail gate, this will get you into the lock assembly. you should be able to trigger the lock here to open and repair as required.
