Engine Performance problem
1998 Toyota 4Runner 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 175, 0 miles

engine light went on. took it to the dealer and was told the catalytic converter needs to be replaced. I intend to drive this Toyota into the ground. Everything else runs fine as i keep the maintenance up. My question should I get a new converter or a used one? BIG difference it price.

Thanks for any insight.

If you're not affected by emission testing get the used one or just use a test pipe temporarily till you can afford the new one.
