I need some help.

I have a 96 4runner 2wd, with ignition issues.
Sporadically, I can attempt to start the engine and one of three things might happen.
1 - Nothing. Internal lights radio all come on, but vehicle doesn't start.
2 - Half start. I'll get a engine turn, but then it'll die.
3 - Normal start.

Like I said this is sporadic. I have gotten all three in the order listed, but most of the time it'll be either scenario 1 or 2, and then on a second attempt to start, the engine will start normally.

The engine check light is not on, and when I checked for error codes everything shows ok.

I went to the dealer and they said I needed a Mass Air Flow Meter, not the sensor, the whole assembly.
But I have to admit I'm questioning. I don't know how that's tied to my initial ignition.
I haven't experienced any issues after the car has started (idling issues, driving performance, etc.).

So I'm reaching out.

Has anyone Experienced this, or can give some insight on what the issue might be?

Thxs

Test the battery and its connection to include the starter side. Your probable causes could be the Am1 40amp and the AM2 30amp fuses, igntion switch, starter relay, park/neutral switch and starter itself

Stalling could be the coolant temperature sensor/idle air control valve and throttle position sensor/MAF sensor and EGR valve-
