With the mileage on my motor (178,000) , would I be better off rebuilding or buying low mileage replacement,,, or just replacing head gaskets. Is it possible this motor has many miles left in it??? Any info or opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi beason68,

If it is anything to do with badly overheated engines, I would recommend rebuilding at the mileage indicated. If the condition of engine is good, head gasket replacement would be suffficient to get many more good years of service from it.

However you should check the overall condition before replacing gasket or rebuilding. Next option would be a used unit.
