Engine Performance problem
1996 Toyota 4Runner 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi, What is causing the Check Engine Indicator light to come on? Every time the engine is on load or rpm reaches 2500rpm, the check engine indicator light comes on. Please can you tell me what is causing this to happen? Thank you.

We need to know what codes in the ECM to tell you what part has failed. Take the vehicle to an Autozone or CSK/O'Reilly and they can perform the code reading for free. Then get back with the codes and description.

Hi, Thanks for your reply, There is no Autozone here on the Island to perform the code test, Can you please, just tell me what is causing this to happen? Coz, I think I can fix or replace it by my self, I only need the expert to advice me. Thank you.

Unfortunately, with newer vehicles with most parts are controlled by the ECM, the only way to really know is by scanning the computer. You said you live in the Island, is that the main island of Hawaii? If it is, there several Checkers Auto Parts that you can go to. If not, you need to find someone with an OBD-ii scanner.

Other than that, you may want to start with the very basics. Start the basic tune-up: plugs, wires, cap and rotors, and all filters.
