My 4runner on cold starts will shift into first but will not shift to the next gear. No matter how high the rpms wont shift up. Tranny fluid is clean (purple) and once it's warmed up it will shift to the other gears. Is this a trans issue, a torque converter issue, a sensor issue or a computer issue?

Hi Dr. Angusmd21 and TY for the donation

Try this remove the EFI fuse for 10secs and go for a road test if it continues test the coolant, throttle and vehicle speed sensors these sensors gives the computer an indication of throttle and governor pressure to include the function of the overdrive -if all okay-Get the tranny pressure tested.

**why would these sensors only effect the trans when it's a cold start? Do the sensors warm up? This is only an issue on cold starts. We had the fluid and filter flushed by an ASE and GM goodwrench certified mech. Still the same issue.

The sensors I've mentioned has a lot to do with how the transmission shifts, if its not the sensors get it block and pressure tested-could be a shift solenoid hanging-up, etc
