Engine Mechanical problem
1990 Toyota 4Runner 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual

When I come to a stop, the oil pressure gage goes to the far left and the engine tries to die on me, so i have to rev the engine to keep it started. Just had my oil changed and have to put oil in between oil changes. My mechanic says i might need a new motor. What do you think?

Hi Wisson1089,

When oil pressure drops drastically during idling, it is caused by a bad oil pump, worn bearings or leakages along librication passages. Sonce oil coonsumption is anissue, a rebuild or engine transplant is inevitable.
