Is it, or when is it okay, or not to tow a cargo trailer, 7 x 16, maybe 5050 lbs, using over-drive?

Never use over drive when towing, in simple terms the extra load through the transmission will over heat the transmission and can cause internal damage, top gear is basically 1 to 1 with the engine, over drive in effect lowers the engine speed for the same road speed, you will see this in over drive with the tachometer, just play it safe, use the engine to do the work not the transmission and keep it in top when towing and not over drive.
