I have a 6.6l turbo diesel with Allison transmission (2500hd). I am looking to buy a fifth wheel camper that dry weight is 11,000 pounds total loaded weight according to manufacturer is 16,600 pounds. Hitch weight 2,600 pounds. Question is, if I get a weight distribution hitch and sway bar can my truck pull that okay. Truck with only me in it weighs 7,020 pounds with family included it is 7,450 pounds. Everything I found says gvwr is 12,000. But fifth wheel capacity is 16,000?

Fifth wheel towing usually is around 2,000 to 3,000 lbs. Higher than the bumper rating because of how the hitch is connected, which takes less weight off the front wheels than putting it on the bumper does. (So you can still steer it) The fifth wheel hitch does take up payload capacity though (about 10 to 15% of your trailer's weight) so if you have a 10,000 lb trailer, 1,000 to 1,500 lbs counts toward your payload. Also, the 4.10 rear-end will tow more than the 3.73 rear-end does. You may want to put a extra transmission cooler and heavy electric brake controller on the truck.
