Torque converter or transmission

Vehicle shudders around 1,800 rpm upon takeoff when driving casually. If driving aggressively, does not do this.
This started about six months ago.

In the last couple weeks the vehicle has started whining. Increases when accelerate and decrease when let off the gas.

I am sure it is a good idea to replace the entire transmission. I have been quoted $3,800.00 for a new one and $2,700.00 for used. That is not attainable right now.

What are the chances replacing just the torque converter could get me by for a while? What price range might I be looking at?

Hello,

For some reason this does not sounds like a transmission issue to me. Has the engine had a tune up recently? Could the engine be misfiring causing the shutter? Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so we can hear the noise? That would be great. You can upload it here with your response. If it is the converter it will be spreading metal throughout the transmission so just the converter I think would be a waste. Also have you run the codes? Here is a guide to help us get started:

Please run down this guide and report back.

Cheers, Ken
