First time having to deal with a side post battery. And I definitely am not a big fan. Has anyone replaced theirs with a top post? Is it recommend? Frowned upon?

Hello,

You can replace it with a top post, but that means you also have to replace the battery cables, or at the very least. Replace the lugs on them. It really is a matter of personal preference really. As far as performance goes, they both perform equally well. It's really up to you.

Thanks,
Alex

I can't get back any other post. WickedStang or somebody answered me. I don't know how quick you guys get these responses. I have a friend that's going to help me with the voltmeter hopefully as soon as he's off work around 5. So should I just wait until then? Or should I go 15 minutes south of my current location to the nearest AutoZone and have my battery checked? Because I left it on charge all night but I had to be use some Appalachian engineering to get the alligator clamps from my little home 12 volt power charger for a top post to work on the side post battery. I've only owned this vehicle for 2 weeks. As of an hour ago I replace the battery I had attempted to charge. Like I said not great connection from the charger and the charger it always works but it's it never actually will it change to Green it stays orange and charging. It's just a little home unit. I was worried about it not charging at all because, like I said I didn't have the adapters to make the side post to top post for the convenience of the charger. But when I was checking it earlier it through spark back at me so I knew it had to be working some. I went back to my friend's house put the battery in tightened it down securely I didn't check the connections from the post to the alternator because I can't get it up in the air and also don't have access to the volunteer until he gets off work. I'm sorry if I'm being repetitive the like I said it's only my second week driving the Saturn but, have been driving it daily. It's been making the sound little different you know jerks in the Wheel from the electric power steering and I was so pleased to hear about last night and also par for the course it's had its little transmission issues but nothing major I saw it until I found this site once again. So I see a flush in the future, near future. The idol has been running a little high for my liking since I got up but nothing too major so wasn't too worried at the moment. But since this battery light happened just yesterday the idle seemed to go up from 1700 or 1800 where its been pretty steadily running to about 2000 even 2200. So my friend holds the keys to the voltmeter and floor jack and basically I'm trying to decide if I should risk a half hour round-trip probably about 24 Mile all together I guess you'd say. To get this battery tested before he even gets off work with the voltmeter? Or should I just hang around three or four hours and wait? I'm only asking because yesterday I said the other post that I can't find is the first day that slight start happening first was just flashing then staying on then going off flashing staying on. I noticed that I'm driving to MacArthur, Ohio from the other side of our lovely County. Say was like I'd say probably a 14 mile one way trip. Well I read the manual that I have on hand I either standard 2003 Saturn Vue manual in the glove box and it said they never try to reduce power usage so I didn't run the power windows I didn't use the power locks key-less entry I didn't have the heat on I didn't have the radio on only thing that was drawing was the automatic headlights and if I knew out how to turn those off I would have as well. But I've had cars with all kinds of charging issues in the past different cars different issues obviously. But that's all I could do. I was hesitant to try to drive it too far but I had a buddy back to his house. So the light stays on constant all the way to his mom's. I ended up hanging out there till my other more mechanically inclined friend got off of work. So the car set in town for only 20 30 minutes the first time I had it off after noticing the light. And just in that brief time out it stayed constant read the other 15 miles out of town. So I'd say about another 20 minutes of driving with it on. Well if I had to guess I'd say I parked it at noon 12:30 at the latest at my buddy's mom's. Stay there till about 4 so it's set for three and a half for 4 hours. I left his house to head back to my other friend's house for him to look at it. And coming across an old curvy Country Road the light went off and stayed off the whole 15-20 minute trip to my buddies. And I swear I can't make this kind of stuff up I took 3 hard 90-degree rights. From the street to the alley, then from the alley to the dissecting a lie, to write in his driveway and as soon as I made that last right into his driveway it came back on. So now me always ready to press my luck. Keep telling myself all those times I had it on and off yesterday while the battery light was already on and had been on since like noon it never struggled to start not even one time and I had to just turn the key like normal fired up first try. And I started it and shut it down at least 10-15 times. But that last time it was too dark to go down the road with just those automatic lights on and wheezing the home stretch back to my friend's house and he said just go ahead turn on the lights and like the heater and radio of everything to try to make it draw power to see if it was the alternator or the battery. Because after those three turns and the light coming on after it had been off for longest consecutive time since it had first happened. He had me convinced I just had a loose wire or poor connection and this is my first ever side post battery and I can tell you I really love it! Not! So long story short should I try to drive the vehicle to AutoZone to get the battery itself tested before I try to test the battery and alternator tonight with the voltmeter and headlight test?Because I'm worried about having to jump it again if I do that and that battery is like you're saying going down another third or whatever each time what if this is the last time and then I'd have to wait until tomorrow and try and find a way to get to AutoZone tomorrow.
