My son's car needs winter tires. The tire size on the vehicle is 205 55 16. My question, can I use 205 60 16 for winter tires what would be the deference between 55 and 60?

Click on specs!
The 205/55R16 overall diameter is 24.8".
The 205/60R16 overall diameter is 25.6".

Will the 205 60 16 work on my 2017 Curze?
The 2017 Cruze also can use a 17 rim.

I am not getting a straight answer. I got dementions of both the 205 55 16 and the 205 60 16 tire. I just want to know if The 205 60 16 tire will fit my 2017 Cruze LT?

Yes it will fit but you will have less freeboard becasue the 205 60 16 tire is a higher profile and will give you a little less room for the tire in the wheelwell. Please post a picture of the currant tire and rim so I can show you what I am talking about please.

Cheers, Ken

Yes, the 60 series tire will be 0.8" taller, so not even 1 inch.
The thread widths on both are the same, 6.6"

I would have to say no, because you didn't say just the 16" rims that fit your vehicle. I am sure there are different bolt patterns but tirerack says yours are 16x7" with a bolt pattern of 5-105, which I believe that is 105 millimeters. Also, there is a Offset of 40mm and a Backspacing of 5.590".
Here is the link to one of those wheels just to show you the specs, https://goo.gl/psMK5k
