Possible TIPM failure

The pins on the TIPM are known to corrode or break. In what condition are they? Is there any evidence of corrosion?

I attached the schematic below. Connector C T101 is shift control B. Note that the same fuse powers the t101 and t103.

Go to the actuator motor and locate the yellow wire with an orange tracer. Does it receive a 5v reference from the TIPM? Does the red wire at the motor receive 12v? See pic 3.

Hi, I have 12V at the red wire and I have 5V reference voltage at the TIPM. I have no voltage at green and yellow during 4WD command or 2WD command. I am using a power probe test light at the terminals at TIPM.

I am wondering if there is an Input signal to the TIPM that signals its okay for 4wd, like an ABS signal or.

Some have power at all times and then are signaled to provide a ground path.

It's a 273 has 7 wires to the actuator.

If you aren't getting power to the yellow and green at the shift mode sensor, I suspect the TIPM is bad. However, do me a favor. Take a look through the operation description specific to this transfer case. Let me know your thoughts.

Hi Joe F, thank you so much for this information! I'm just getting back to this truck and trying to figure out where and how to test for sensor signal from the actuator. I never have any dash lighting up showing 4WD only the Service 4wd . If I can verify that a proper signal from the actuator is getting to the TIPM. D201 and or G180, I can rule out a fault with the actuator. I have a feeling the TIPM is shot but I have not collected enough evidence to pull the trigger, expensive.

I totally understand. Also, don't be fooled. I have dealt with a lot of these. Some show power but as soon as a load is placed on them, they fail.

Unfortunately, I have no voltage on the output terminals from the TIPM that go to the actuator for 4WD command. Yes, I replaced the actuator, as I was sure I had no signal from the actuator to the TIPM...Network issue? I think I will punt it to a guy nearby who has alot of used TIPMs and he can plug and play.

I suspect the TIPM is bad. You need to get one specific for your truck. I know they rebuild them, and you can get one online. But like everything else anymore, they aren't cheap.

Well, I tried another actuator no joy, so I put the other replacement back on and voila everything works. My guess is a poor termination fit at the actuator, but I was certain that was good. That truck has left the building, I wish I could say it was fixed for sure, but it works now, thanks for your help, and I will contribute to this site as much as i can.
