I believe the TIPM to be bad can I put a used one in my car if the numbers match identically? And can I do a hard reset instead of going to the dealership and paying them to rescan and program my vin# to the different TIPM? Thanks. JC

What makes you think the TIPM is bad? As for replacement, with a new one you can plug it in and have it transfer any data needed on it's own, usually as long as the part numbers are the same on a used one it will do the same. Where you can run into issues is with the option packages, some need to be enabled in the TIPM (like fog lights or DRLs for instance) if they were "dealer installed" items.

I was told that today. Answering your question I think there's a problem with it because it has a mysterious starting problem sometimes it won't do anything. I can put a battery booster on it and it starts right up. I've replaced battery starter crank sensor. I can be driving down the road at night and the lights go out. Only one headlight has low beam. I've replaced bulbs and finally headlights. Still not fixed. Today I put different coils in it. I put new plugs what the book calls for.
Engine starts right up but the minute you get into the pedal it stalls. So I've got a long list of new parts and still growing. And still no solution. Cylinders all read 150 per cylinder. All that's left external is the TIPM/ ECM.

If you start it and it runs that isn't the TIPM causing no throttle, the TIPM only supplies power the the PCM, it doesn't control the engine. However it could cause the lights to act strange. So could a bad ground or wiring issue. I would get a copy of the wiring diagram and test the TIPM outputs for the lights. What you're description sounds like is a bad connection to the TIPM on one of the connectors, for that you could disconnect the battery and remove it and check the connections, I have seen them get corroded a lot. The attached is the headlight circuit. A way around the issue of no lights would be to add a relay to the circuit and use that to power the lights from a battery feed, So instead of left and right low beams having power feeds from the TIPM, the control wire for the side that works would turn on the external relay that would power both low or high beams. However if the car has lamp out warning lights they may come on.

That sounds very interesting. But I think it's above my level of expertise.
Electrical issues are not my cup of tea.
Unfortunately, I can't even read the multimeter I own. It has so many functions I'm lost when I turn it on.
Really wish I were more capable in this area. I can change the TIPM, take it apart etc. Which I did today and cleaned all contacts and connections with special electrical cleaner. Yesterday the lights wouldn't shut off and ran the battery down. After cleaning it things are working normal again. JC

Good to hear that part is working better. On one hand I like the idea of having all of the electrical bits in one spot, but they could have made it a lot easier to replace parts in it.
