Removed timing chains before putting my cam tool on. Tried to put chain back as close as possible to the original point before removed. How can I set timing without damaging valves?

Good morning.

When you set the piston to top dead center, rotate the crank about two inches. That will ensure the pistons are all off TDC and you can move the cams around to align them. Once you align them then you can move the crank back to the TDC mark for chain installation.

YYou can rotate either way as long as you are not at top dead center.
