Overheating? Person that I don't trust is telling me it's the water pump and timing belt?

A person that I don't trust is telling me it's the water pump and timing belt. I was wondering what are the first things I should look at. Like steps of the things, I need to look at before I replace things. If you could give me a list to check.

If you don't trust them, take it to another shop for confirmation. here is a guide so you can look at the leak yourself to confirm the water pump:

I can tell you the water pump and timing belt failure is common.

Water Pump, R&R 3.0 HRS @ shop rate. Look on amazon for the parts prices.
