Timing belt alignment marks?

Books say cam marks up aligned with cover marks crankshaft mark aligned with TDC mark on cover. I rotated motor to check marks crank is aligned on compression number one TDC but cam marks are 180° off.

Good evening.

You are on valve overlap. Rotate the crank one more turn and the cam marks will be lined up along with the crank. That will be the compression stroke.

Yes it does line up with one more rotation, but it is already past compression stroke at that point it is up the piston has already compressed the air-fuel mixture and fired and its on way down for the power stroke when the marks on the the cam sprockets are 180 degrees out is going down for the power stroke at that moment.

When the cams are 180 out and the piston at TDC, you are on valve overlap not compression.

You are not grasping what is happening. I put my finger in spark plugs hole.

I turn motor by hand I rotate engine until I start feeling the air pressure push against my finger, I now know it's coming up to TDC compression. I put an extension down in through spark plug hole I continue to proceed rotating engine until I am at TDC valves are closed crank mark on TDC cam marks are at 6:00 position not 12. I have 6 compressions.

I have a 06 dodge charger with a 2.7l engine, I have changed bearings, water pump and a few intake valves. Changed intake valves twice due to not having right timing and timing chain bad. As of now everything is correct but cant seem to get timing right, that is do to camshaft problem Im having. Ok, so the problem Iam having is with the left camshaft, book says camshafts marks are to be facing up 90 degree angle from cylinder head. Rightside is good, but left side when placing cam at 90 degree's facing up aligned with mark the front exhaust valves are open. Question I have, is the camshaft bad or is it ok that exhaust valves are open. Really stuck here.

You have the right camshaft 180 off. In other words you need to rotate the crankshaft one full turn and then line everything up. Here are guides to help you get the job done.
