I replaced the timing belt and water pump in our car. I lined everything up properly and now it sounds odd while cranking and will not start. As if there is not as much resistance.

The belt did break while it was running which is why I replaced it.

Any ideas?

This is an interference engine. If the timing belt broke, valves are going to be bent and will need to be replaced.
