Installing the timing chain and I need to find TDC, Top dead center, secondly I’ve don’t this three time because after I install the chain I rotate the crankshaft pulley and after two full rotations the links are off by one link. I I’m thinking it’s the tensioner and the instructions are very complex as to where the tensioner lie supported by a m6 bolt. I’ve attached the instructions which I make sense of it. All the help I’ve gotten has style everyone. My chain comes with painted links so it’s easy to see where they go, but it’s just a few steps I’m not clear on. How the exhaust cam the other how they need to sit when I place the charge and then from there one it should be very simple. Installing the chain cover the rest is pretty simple. I just need a second pair of eyes to confirm what I’m doing is right.

Hi,

When you turn the crank, it may take multiple turns for the marks to align again.

I attached a couple of pics below showing timing marks. Note the color marks on the links. Let me know if that is what you did.

Take care,

Joe

Yes, I sure did. From here I even rotated the pulley to where the marked went twice all the way through to get “realigned “only to be off every single time by one link. The last time I did this I turned the car on, and it ran for a few minutes, but very hard and a lot of tapping noises and was even with someone else that stated the timing was so close but off by a link.

Hi,

If you had the colored links aligned, it can't be off. There are a specific number of links between them that help prevent it from being off.

By chance, did the timing jump or the chain fail before you did this work?

Let me know.

Joe
