A tick like dead cylinder tick. Good compression, getting fuel, spark plug wires work, plugs look good, no codes, no exhaust leaks. It doesn’t start right off the bat it waits until it’s warmed up a little bit before ticking and lopes a little at idle. It’s barely broke in (3,500 miles on complete rebuild)

Hi,

Ticking usually is from a lifter. Does the sound seem to come from the top of the engine? You could have good compression if the valve lash is too large. Also, that would cause ticking.

Additionally, do you know if the valve lifter oil filter was replaced? It could be partially blocked lowering pressure to the lifters. It is mounted under the oil pressure sensor and under the intake manifold. See pic 1.

Let me know. Also, if possible, record the engine making the noise and upload it for me to hear.

Take care,

Joe

Forgive me for not getting back to you sooner, I’m having phone issues with two phones, believe it or not. I changed the oil pressure sensor in the filter. I forgot to tell you that I’m deaf, so I can’t hear the tick with the exception of electronically through an implant. So, I went and asked someone else to listen to my tick and I came up with two of them saying that it is a rod knock. So, I pulled the oil pan and checked all the rods all the bolts are good, but number eight has a little bit of playing. It can’t be much more than 1000 maybe two but that’s enough so that’s what we are now I pulled it apart and I’m going to see if I can get away with just changing the bearings we shall see. I would send you pictures of the bearing and the crank but I don’t Room in either phone to even take a picture or record the sound of the tick I’m going to have to get another phone a third one lol I don’t know how I lost the bearing in 3500 miles I only replaced one rod in the rebuild and that’s the one that lost the bearing thought that was rather odd.

Hi,

No problem whatsoever. As far as the bearing, that doesn't sound like too much play. Did you inspect the oil pump pick-up for dirt or anything slowing oil flow?

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Yes, Joe there was it covered about an eighth of the screen I installed a high-volume fuel pump, so I don’t think it was enough to cause the problem and it wasn’t metal. FYI I’m One of the few fortunate souls that has a flat Valley cover no DOD.

Hi,

The bearing has a lot of marks on it. Is the crank the same? I can't tell for sure in the pic.

Let me know. Also, I would likely be doing what you are suggesting.

Let me know.

Joe

Put on your glasses lol. Yes, but no scuffing, just faint lines. Well, here’s the tick (see pic) 0013 beat out of that bearing. When I pulled the top bearing off the rod, I noticed it said lower on it so the halves are reversed which makes them offset or off center could that have caused the whole problem? And since 7&8 are on the same journal then 7 should have the same lube problem.

LOL, my wife is constantly telling me that.

Yes, you found the problem, and wow is the other bearing in rough shape. Again, I can't see the crank too well, no making fun, but I hope it wasn't damaged.
