Ticking noise from rear when accelerating?

When driving there is a ticking noise coming from the rear of the truck. It only happens when my foot is on the gas and the harder the pedal is pressed the faster and louder the ticking gets. If I let my foot off the gas the ticking stops. Sounds like if you put a card in a bicycle spoke as kid only it is a metallic sound.

This happens when the U joints are going out. To be sure, you can get under the vehicle and use a flashlight to inspect for rust colored dust which is a sure sign the U joint needs replacement. check out this guide and the images below to help you with the repair:
