I just replaced the timing chain in my car because I had a slight slapping noise. Found out the timing chain tensioner was weak. After replacing the timing chain the car started right up with no slapping sound, but now I have a ticking noise. The car hasn't been driven for two years. Could I have a sticky lifter and what can I do to get rid of the ticking? Never had that noise before.

The ticking could be a stiff or unlubricated lifter, but it can also be the timing being off by as little as one tooth. Please be sure the timing is set 100% TDC, because timing being off by even the smallest little bit can cause engine noises, especially in a 4 cylinder car. Please keep us posted!

I will double check the timing again. If timing is correct, how can I get the lifter to stop ticking or will the lifter noise gradually go away?

I would change the oil and filter to a lighter weight such as 5/20

Fluid Type

API Classification .................... API service SJ, SL/ILSAC GF-3 or above

Viscosity .................... SAE 5W-20, 5W-30
Capacities

Engine Oil Capacity

With filter .................... 4.5 qt (4.3L)

Here is a guide to walk you through the oil change

Please let us know what happens.

I did a oil and filter change and also put new spark plugs in. If it is one tooth off wouldnt the engine spit and sputter a little or back fire. It does none of those.I turn the key to start and it starts right away.

Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so we can hear the noise? That would be great. You can upload it here with your response.

Thanks for the video, something is wrong inside, oil etc will not help. It sounds like a broken valve spring, valve train issue. Can you tell if the noise is coming from the front of the engine or from up top? Lets remove the valve cover to inspect. Look for loose cam followers. Let me know
