ticking/knocking sound

I had to have the timing belt replaced so had a friend do that for me I drove it bout a couple miles after he was done it wasn't right so then took it to a shop he was only 2 teeth off from having it timed right however after that my engine had a slight tick tick tick sound was told that's normal all engines get a ticking sound well its a yr later now it has gotten to be a ticking/ knocking sound so what do I do

depending on engine it may have bent a valve if timing wasn't set correctly. it may be a lifter as well

a bent valve is serious but if it'snot misfiring then it's probably ok. the other may be the lifter so it will have to have a pro check it out. because I can't hear it it's best to have checked locally
