Four days ago I noticed thick white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe and immediately drove it to my mechanic. They cleaned the air filter. Still coming out.

Hello,

Lets try doing a test to see if you have a blown head gasket to make sure it isn't the problem.

Please follow this guide

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/head-gasket-blown-test

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

I drive a 2005 Ford Escape. While accelerating after being stopped at a light I noticed the car hesitating a bit. Next thing I knew I white smoke came out the back and the acceleration was fine. Later in the day going home from work I noticed the white smoke again after being stopped. Then I noticed a "knocking/grinding" when I accelerated that would go away after a few seconds. The car has roughly 118,000 on it

White smoke is a sign of burning engine coolant due to a leaking cylinder head gasket although that typically doesn't clear up at times. Noises are never a good sign but there are some things that are relatively minor if you catch them early. Your mechanic can do a chemical test at the radiator to check for a leaking head gasket. If it is leaking you will also notice the coolant level dropping in the reservoir. He will listen to the noise too to determine the cause and what it will take to solve it.

Ford escape 2004. Excellent suv. One day it started rattling and white smoke started comiing out the exhaust pipe.I have no clue. Called around. No one will give a general idea. Something like "white smoke " sounds like water or oil in your line. CORRECTION. With the exception of one guy. Everyone else come get my diagnostic. If someone is knowledgeable they have heard of this problem before.I think its just about money :(.A little help. Please  40,000 V8

Im sorry but white smoke sounds like water or oil burning in the cyl. Could just be a head gaskit but you also said rattling so could be much worse. Not sure about V8 do you mean V6. And your right it is a great suv.
