I bought the parts from a major chain, but one type of gasket says two is required, then there is another o-ring type gasket noted also. Any clarification and/or diagram would be appreciated before I begin.

We have a thermostat which goes into a housing.

The housing sort of resembles a traditional "V" motor water pump on the ends of it, as it has two flanges which require a flat gasket to bolt it in place (hence two required).

The housing does not need to be removed to install the thermostat hence, those two gaskets are not needed to replace the thermostat.

Depending on where and the parts you buy, the thermostat may or may not come with the gasket. However it comes, you will need a gasket.

The gasket "resembles" an "O" ring, but it really is not. It looks similar, but there is a groove cut/made in the inner surface that lips over the stat. That is the only gasket needed if you are only replacing the thermostat.

See the picture below.

Just installed it today. So far, so good. I had a problem getting it to fit. I put the grooved gasket on the thermostat but it seemed a hair too big to fit into the housing, always 1 little side of the rubber not going in. I think I got it all even and snugged down the housing. I ran it then drove it, no leaks so far. The only concern is that the only thermostat in stock was without the little wiggle valve on it.
Thanks for the help!

The little valve is too allow air to escape. If the engine is not overheating you are okay

I'm having some trouble locating the thermostat on my 04 hyundai tiburon. I followed the top radiator hose and still can't find where it could be.
