Do I drain the coolant before installing the new thermostat?

Yes you do, some don't but it makes a mess, and it is better for the gasket sealer to dry without contamination. Here is how to drain the coolant and how to change out the thermostat in case you need it. Check out the images (below). Let us know if you need anything else.
