There is a noise when I insert the switch key to start the automobile, Lexus dealer said they have to take the whole steering column apart to take out the switch key mechanism and lubricate it to fix the problem!.
I am thinking of wd40 the key slot, but I am not sure if this action will mess up anything there. Any better idea?

No, you don't want to do that. You can't use anything liquid or sticky or it will just attract dirt. Powdered graphite is the only thing used in a key and tumbler and I doubt that would have anything to do with a noise.
