The tachometer doe not go beyond 3

If you start the car and match the accelerator pedal, the tachometer on the dashboard doesn't go beyond 3. What could be the reason for that? Before now, it used to up to 4 to 5 or beyond if you long press the accelerator pedal.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

If the engine will not rev beyond 3,000 RPM, there could be a few problems. First, low fuel pressure. Second, there could be an issue with a camshaft or crankshaft position sensor. The catalytic converter could be partially plugged and so on.

Is the check engine light staying on when the engine is running? If it is, then you need to scan the computer for diagnostic trouble codes. That will point us in the right direction,.

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but often times a parts store will do it for free or lend/rent you a scanner. If the light stays on, that is step one
