The most common issue of an oil filter leaking after a filter change is that the rubber seal of the old filter is left behind on the engine surface. When fitting the new filter, it will tighten as normal but the two rubber seals will cause a bad seal and once the engine is started then the oil will push past these seals.
Suggest inspecting the fitting flange of the filter, ensure that it is clean and that there is no old rubber seal stuck on it, see image below.
Inspect the new filter for dents, damaged threads, and cut or warped gaskets †and double-check that you’re using the right filter number. Smear a light layer of oil around the gasket so it doesn’t bind on installation, and carefully thread it onto the engine by hand, taking care not to overtighten. As always, refer to your manufacturer’s recommended torque although most metal screw on filters are fitted hand tight.
