compression test

is there anyway i can do a compression test to know the engine actually works? The engine is not wired up.

Sure, just use a regular battery and jumper cables to jump the starter and crank it over for the test. Just prop it up so it is solid and the flywheel is clear. Pull all the plugs. Then connect the battery positive to the starter and connect the negative terminal at the battery end. Connect the other end to the block. Use a piece of wire or a remote switch to activate the starter.

Run both a dry and a wet test if the engine has not been run in a while as setting can cause issues.
