The CD (6 discs) stopped working?

The unit turns on, the volume dials show increase when applied but there is no sound. What could be causing this? It is a 4-speaker system but none of the speakers are producing sound. You guys provide outstanding trouble shooting advice please help me out with this situation. Thank you, Bob.

Hi,

Many of these have a separate amp. Do you know if your vehicle has one? If it does, have you checked the fuse for the amp? (See pic below)

Joe, fuse #6 (AMP.FUSE) wasn't blown. I lost the fuse trying to put it back. It's a 20amp. fuse. Do you think a service light will now appear since there is not a fuse in the fuse block now? What can be causing no sound? Everything seems fine, but the speakers aren't working. What's your opinion? BOB.

Hi,

No, that shouldn't turn the check engine light on. I was thinking the amp itself, which is what produces the sound may have failed.

Do me a favor. If you have a test lamp, check where the fuse goes to see if there is power present. Also, don't worry about the fuse being out. It won't hurt anything, but the radio won't work. (Which is already the problem).

Joe, the radio turns on (no sound)without the 20 amp.fuse in place.I'll test where the fuse goes to see if power is present. How can I determine whether the AMP.is bad? Thanks for your help, BOB.

Bob, if the amp is getting power and a signal from the tuner, there is an internal problem within the amp.

At that point, you would need to remove it and have it checked at an audio repair shop. Chances are they will take it apart to see if there are any burnt solder joints and they can check if there is an output from it.

I wish I could be of more help. When it comes to audio, we remove and install, but have them inspected by others.

Hi,

In most cases, a failed speaker will still make noise. When they fail, usually they make a crackling sound or humming. Also, the chances of all the speakers failing at the same time is extremely unlikely.

In a stereo shop, they actually connect it to a known working tuner, speakers, and power source. That is how it gets tested.

I'm sorry. I wish I had an easier answer, but that is the only way I know how it's done. One of my best friends owns a stereo shop and he has checked many for me that way.

At a car dealership, they would test it by installing a working one to see if everything starts working.
