While I was driving, the car prompted me to stop, shift into gear, and engage the parking brake; I pulled over and followed these instructions. Afterward, however, the car wouldn't move. After letting it sit for about ten minutes, it was able to run again. I’d like to know what might be broken and how to get it repaired.

How old is the 12 volt battery?

The 12V battery in the trunk runs all the computer modules and electronic relays. When it dips below operational voltage thresholds, the car can throw an erratic "P-Lock" or brake safety error which locks out normal shifting.

I would have that tested first, then if they looks to be ok or is over 2 years old, try that first.

Here is a video on testing the battery with a simple multimeter:

I'd also have access to a scanner capable of reading Toyota ABS and Chassis codes, if there are any active codes let us know.
