Temperature gauge goes in to the red when driving on motorways,
but doesn't when driving round town.

Hello,

This sounds like it could be a problem with your cooling system being restricted. I would probably do a flush and fill on the cooling system and make sure there isn't a blockage or restriction somewhere. Also I might replace the thermostat at the same time. I have included a link for you to go to down below:

Please go through this guide and get back to us with what you find out please.

Thanks,
Alex

Hey Terry Vaughan,

A quick test that might be worth a try.

Can you please get someone to raise the engine revs while you watch the two radiator hoses?

Transmission in Park, park brake on.

You are looking for if one of the hoses collapses when the engine revs rise.

Some radiator hoses have springs inside to stop them from collapsing, In which case you may need a new rad hose. They also get soft with age.

Then a flush and a new thermostat are a great idea too.

Hope that helps.

Regards, Joe
