Description of Problem: I scan. P0118 KIA - engine coolant temperature sensor 1 circuit high input. Well, sir, my cooling fan has broken down. Now I replaced a new assemble cooling fan when I started the engine simultaneously with the cooling function it did not trip off. The A/C was not cool too. Even the temperature gauge is not working. Now I replaced the new temperature sensor. I still have the same result. The other mechanic said the engine computer module might be faulty. Then by checking the ECM there is only 3.28 voltages on the ECM going to the temperature sensor and there is nothing like continuity connection. Sir it is possible the ECM is so broken sir. Thanks

Okay, there is supposed to be a five volt signal sent to the sensor and the other wire is the return to the ECM.

If the connector does not have five volts, then I would check the ECM connector in the attached diagram. If the five volts is not present at the output of the ECM, then yes, it needs an ECM.

Sir, I check the ECM but there is only 3.28 voltages on the ECM. Is that enough?

No, five volts is what the reference voltage should be.

If you only have 3.28 volts, then the ECM has failed.

No, you need special equipment for that. You need a new ECM, then it needs to be flashed or programmed to your car and keys.

Hi sir. I have a question again. If the temperature sensor's voltage dropped, will it affect the aircon as well?

No, not at all. The only time is if the engine is severely overheating, the compressor will be disabled.

How about the temperature gauge and the cooling fan? Will they get affected if ECM voltage drops?

If the ECM voltage drops to the ECM, then nothing will work correctly.

A scan tool that reads OBD1 systems can read these voltages.

No, the numbers must be the same. If you install the other one, it may not work at all.
