As soon as I turn the key to the on position the temperature gauge for the coolant goes to halfway point and stays no matter the temperature of the engine. I replaced the temperature sensor and still the same. I was wondering if my vehicle has a temperature sender too? If it does could this be my problem?

Thanks for your reply, No I changed the sensor I guess, it was located close to the thermostat, where is the temperature sender located on my escape? Does the sender controls the gauge? I really do appreciate your time, and another question, if the sender is bad, would it effect the performance of my vehicle?

SENDER IS FOR THE GAUGE

YOUR CAR DOES NOT CARE IF YOU HAVE AN ACCURATE GAUGE! (IT IS THERE FOR YOU TO MONITOR FOR AN "OVERHEAT SITUATION") IT ( SENDER AND GAUGE) HAS NO INFLUENCE ON PERFORMANCE

THE SENSOR TELLS MR. COMPUTER THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE SO IT CAN CREATE THE BEST AIR/ FUEL MIXTURE (WHILE ALSO USING INPUT FROM THE OTHER SENSORS ON BOARD)

HERE IS THE "SENSOR" THAT TELLS THE COMPUTER THE TEMPERATURE.

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/carquest-by-bwd-temperature-sensor-wt5067/15970002-P?searchTerm=coolant+temperature+sensor

BELOW I FOUND THE "SENSOR" IN A DIAGRAM FROM "PRODEMAND"

I WAS UNABLE TO FIND A DIAGRAM FOR THE "SENDER" (SORRY!)

THIS HELP ANY?

No problem, I am just not sure if it has a sender or not, but I guess there has to be if they sell it. I have looked everywhere online and cannot locate it either, just frustrated, but sincerely thank you for your time. And thanks for the help. I was was just worried about not knowing if the vehicle is overheating or not.

I DID A LITTLE ASKING AROUND

SOUNDS LIKE IT IS BEHIND THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR/ FRONT OF BLOCK/ CLOSE TO THE OIL FILTER.

LET ME KNOW IF THEY WERE RIGHT.

I believe I located it, but the problem is that it looks nothing like the part they sell at Autozone or online, it has a connection for a single wire, all the parts I have seen online have two wires. I unplugged it though thinking that if I did so the temperature should not move at all, but unfortunately still the same thing. I have been told that I could have a bad cluster, and may need replacing. What's your input on that?
